This year, Virgin Media O2 mobile network users will not face roaming charges despite other significant networks announcing additional fees.
EE and Vodafone - two of the four largest mobile networks in the UK - said they were reintroducing roaming charges for consumers travelling to the EU in January, Three is set to reintroduce charges come May 2022.
O2 and Virgin Mobile have now said they will maintain their inclusive roaming in the EU, so their customers can travel and use their data, calls and texts just as they would in the UK.
Virgin Media O2's Gareth Turpin said:
"We're starting the year by giving our customers some certainty: we will not be reintroducing roaming fees in Europe for customers on O2 or Virgin Mobile.
"Unlike all the other major mobile networks who are bringing back roaming fees, we will not be following suit.
"With many Brits now looking to plan a trip abroad, we've got our customers covered and extra roaming charges will be one less thing to worry about."
Virgin Media O2 said, based on analysis of rates from other providers, a family of four could see an extra £100 on their phone bill while abroad for two weeks.
The return of roaming charges follows the departure of the UK from the EU, as a result of the Brexit vote.
In 2017 the EU removed the charges for people using phones while moving around Europe.
