On Friday, March 22, 2024, members of the Silver Lining Team embarked on a meaningful journey, participating in an overnight outdoor sleep-out to raise funds and awareness for the armed forces community. This initiative aimed to support the approximately 6,000 veterans facing homelessness across the UK.
We embarked on the challenge immediately after finishing our workday, racing against the fading light to put up our tents within the Granary grounds. Our setup comprised six tents alongside a makeshift shelter fashioned from cardboard and tarpaulin to represent what some people suffering from homelessness may face.
As the night wore on, the air grew bitingly cold, nudging us to set up a fire pit near our tents. We were determined to truly understand what it feels like to be homeless in the UK, especially during this unforgiving season, so we aimed to replicate that experience as closely as possible. It was all about connecting more deeply with the cause.
Despite the challenging conditions, some of us managed to catch a few hours of sleep. Our spirits were lifted the next morning by the news that our efforts had culminated in a significant contribution of £215 to the Royal British Legion. This donation will provide essential supplies for veterans living on the streets. To illustrate, £15 can supply two nutritious hot meals, while £70 can secure a 5-pack of crucial electrical kitchen items.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to every team member who participated and to all those who generously donated to this vital cause. Your support makes a substantial difference in the lives of those who have served our country. If you're inspired to contribute, please follow the link below to make a donation.
